Terra Cielo Mare: the 'bullet' watch

Terra Cielo Mare dedicates a watch to the famous 8.8cm Fliegabwehrkanone anti-aircraft gun, nicknamed the Flak 88. This was one of the most successful cannons of the Second World War, also used after the war, invented and produced in Germany during the First World War as a means of defending towns on the French border and used by numerous armies such as the Royal Italian Army. The Flak 88 was a particularly versatile cannon but found its greatest expression as an anti-aircraft weapon. And it is from this use that Terra Cielo Mare drew inspiration for the design of the 88 Flak watch whose dial, made from an original 88mm calibre bullet, faithfully reproduces the instruments used to calculate the firing rate of objects in flight. The spiral was in fact used to measure, on an 18-second basis, the time, speed, height and distance used for this operation. The recovery of an original projectile involved a lengthy search, as it is, according to experts, an unobtainable piece.
The watch is being produced in a limited series of 88 pieces, with a 316L steel case with PVD treatment and a bezel and back tightened with 8 screws, in marine phosphor bronze. The caseback also features a medallion reproducing the grooves found inside the cannon barrel.
