We will talk about the opportunity to revive the Italian watchmaking tradition, explaining its historical legitimacy, and we will analyse the importance of synergies between our country's excellences, bringing the examples of those established by Locman with prestigious realities: Amerigo Vespucci, Ducati and, recently, Crivelli. This talk thus brings together the two protagonists of Vicenzaoro: jewellery and watchmaking.
Our country is rich in historical watchmakers, such as Giovanni Dondi dell'Orologio, who lived in the 14th century and created one of the most important astronomical clocks in history. A reconstruction (made in the 1960s by Milanese watchmaker Luigi Pippa) is in the International Watchmaking Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Or Father Embriaco, who made the Pincio water clock in Rome in the 19th century, his invention. In decidedly more recent times, we must remember the numerous industries that in the 1900s supplied Swiss factories with fundamental components for the construction of watches, which Marco Mantovani, president of Locman, an independent watchmaking company on the island of Elba, will talk about.
